Donald Trump’s cryptocurrency platform, World Liberty Financial, has become a scammer target, leading to fake giveaways and hacked social media accounts that have deceived users.
Since its launch last month, World Liberty Financial has garnered over 230,000 subscribers on its official Telegram channel. However, scammers exploited this popularity by creating a fraudulent group named “World Liberty Financial Airdrop,” falsely offering up to $15,000 in cryptocurrency to those who connect their crypto wallets. The fake group misled over 70,000 users, putting their funds at risk. The official channel warned users about counterfeit tokens and emphasized that genuine posts will never be labelled as “Sponsored” or “Ad.”
The X accounts of Tiffany and Lara Trump were hacked on September 4 and were used to promote a fake Solana-based meme-coin, supposedly linked to World Liberty Financial. The hacked accounts shared a contact address for the token and the official Telegram channel to make the promotion appear legitimate. The fake tweet from Lara Trump’s account garnered over 30,000 views before it was deleted, with Caitlyn Jenner unknowingly endorsing the scam.
Eric Trump and the official World Liberty Financial X account quickly warned followers about the hacked accounts, urging them not to click on any links or purchase tokens from these compromised profiles. Both accounts were locked down shortly after the warnings, but it was too late for some. The promoted fake token surged in price, reaching an all-time high before dropping by over 90% in hours.
